The Student Nutrition Program of Central Eastern Ontario works to ensure all children in the region attend school well nourished and ready to learn. We work to provide safe environments, free of judgment, in which children and youth can develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime. Our programs take a universal approach, and serve all children in the region regardless of socioeconomic status.
There are now more than 607 nutrition programs serving approximately 78,125 students in Durham, Haliburton, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, Peterborough, Simcoe and York regions. These programs are run by local Committees which may include parents, administrators, teaching staff and volunteers. Local businesses also play a key role in programs by contributing funds, food, and supplies to nutrition programs.
Although financially administered by the Peterborough Family Resource Centre, each local nutrition program is uniquely developed and run by the school community to best suit its students needs.
