Every factual claim on this site is sourced. Here's how we researched it, how we handle uncertainty, and where every source can be checked.
How this site was researched
Content was compiled in a dedicated research pass (August 2026) prioritizing primary, official sources: Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Statistics Canada, provincial and territorial government program pages, and named research bodies like PROOF (University of Toronto) and the Coalition for Healthy School Food. Every source link on this site was retrieved and confirmed to actually exist before being cited — none are invented or guessed.
How we handle uncertainty
Program names, funding figures, and contact details change over time, and not every claim could be confirmed against a primary source during research — in a few cases, an official government page was temporarily unreachable and the underlying figure came from secondary reporting (news coverage of a government release) instead of the release itself. Wherever that's true, or wherever two sources disagreed, we say so explicitly rather than presenting it as settled fact. On province and territory pages, look for the Some details need verification badge — it lists exactly what's uncertain and why.
What this means if something looks wrong
Programs are renamed, funding is renewed, and phone numbers change — if something here is out of date, it's most likely because the underlying program changed after our research date, not because it was invented. Every claim links to its original source so you can check the current version yourself. If you spot something that's changed, we'd rather know and fix it than leave it wrong.
